Can You Watch 3D Movies at Home?

Even though 3D televisions are all but gone from stores, there are still ways you can watch 3D TV shows and movies with your home theater system. You might still be able to find 3D TVs from third-party dealers if you know where to look, and most video projectors still offer a 3D viewing option.

And yet, watching 3D movies at home might require you to do more than buying the right television and Blu-Ray player. If you really want the full 3D viewing experience from your home theater system, here are some things that you can do to make that happen.

Buy a 3D Enabled TV or Projector

As we said before, most stores don't carry 3D TVs anymore, but you can still find projectors, OLED TVs, and even some plasma TVs that have a 3D setting. All of these products are capable of showing movies and TV shows in 2D, so you won't have to worry about buying a second TV for your home entertainment center to watch 2D movies and shows. You will also make sure that any TV or projector you buy is compatible with your Blu-Ray player of choice and that you know how to set it up for the best possible viewing experience.

Find a 3D Enabled Blu-Ray Player or DVD Player

There are over 500 Blu-Ray titles available in the United States that are capable of showing movies in 3D, and you will need the right Blu-Ray player to play them. These players and titles are getting harder to come by, but you can still find them on online marketplaces and through other third-party sellers.

3D Cable and Streaming Services

You can watch TV shows and movies in 3D on cable or through certain streaming services if you have the right cable or satellite box. As long as it is compatible with the TV or projector you purchase, you should be okay. And yes, there are still some 3D movies available on some streaming services.

Wearing 3D Glasses

Although there are ways of watching 3D movies without the proper glasses, but you will need the right kind of 4K television or OLED TV to do so. It needs to be in the proper position in your home theater room, and it should have a compatible Blu-Ray player or cable box. Since this is all very difficult to purchase and set up, most people will opt for using 3D glasses. The glasses that are available are much more sophisticated than the cardboard red and blue shades that used in the past. Passive polarized glasses look like normal sunglasses and can be worn by just about anybody. They can even be worn over regular glasses most of the time.

Meanwhile, active shutter glasses are more sophisticated and sync rapidly moving shutters for each eye with what is happening on your TV screen. They are more expensive than passive polarized glasses, but they do provide a much more realistic and satisfying 3D viewing experience. Check them out from the same sellers of most 3D viewing equipment if you want the best that 3D TVs have to offer.
