What’s Streaming in September 2021?

by Michael Webster

The end of summer is here, and with back-to-school in full swing and fall quickly approaching, our days tend to fill up in the blink of an eye. However, if you’re still in need of some entertainment as a quick break from your hectic schedule, September is absolutely packed with streaming offerings, including new seasons of beloved fan favorites and an impressive slate of anticipated newcomers.

There’s a bunch of new content coming out this September, so if you’re looking for an excuse to stay in and become a couch potato — we’ve got you covered. Here’s our list of the top 5 shows to stream this September:

Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (Disney+, September 8)

One big, new series addition in September is “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” which is a playful reboot of the early ’90s favorite “Doogie Howser.” This time around, it’s a family dramedy focused on a teenage girl in Hawaii (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) trying to balance high school and her budding medical career.

You can start streaming new episodes every Wednesday, starting September 8 on Disney+.

Y: The Last Man (Hulu, September 13)

This postapocalyptic drama based on an iconic comic book is about a world in which every mammal with a Y chromosome has died off — except for one man and his monkey, who find themselves scrapping to survive in a new world order. Ben Schnetzer stars as Yorick (a.k.a., the Last Man), alongside Diane Lane who plays his mother (as well as the new president.)

While the postapocalyptic thing has been played out many times, with a unique twist and solid source material, “Y: The Last Man” is a must-see. You can start streaming this thrilling new series on Hulu starting September 13.

Scenes from a Marriage (HBO Max, September 12)

HBO Max is going one step deeper into making viewers grip the edge of their seats in September, with the five-episode limited series “Scenes From a Marriage.” The series is based on a modern-day adaptation of the Ingmar Bergman classic, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain as a couple going through some difficult motions.

It’ll undoubtedly be exciting, and you won’t want to miss any of the unfolding drama that awaits. Tune in to the series premiere on September 12 on HBO Max.

Goliath (Amazon Prime Video, September 24)

The legal drama “Goliath” returns for its fourth and final season after a two-year layoff, with underdog lawyer Billy McBride (Billy Bob Thornton) taking on his biggest opponent yet: the opioid industry. Even better for all the bingers out there, Amazon will break with its weekly rollout routine and drop all eight episodes at once.

You can start streaming the entire final season on September 24 on Prime Video.

Foundation (Apple TV+, September 24)

The long-awaited series “Foundation”, adapted from Isaac Asimov’s classic series of novels, tells the thousand-year story of a sprawling intergalactic empire that’s on the decline and the effort to preserve humanity and rebuild civilization from its imminent fall. Lee Pace (“Halt and Catch Fire”), Jared Harris (“Mad Men”), Lou Llobell (“Voyagers”), and Terrance Mann (“Sense8”) star in the massive story that could be a massive sci-fi hit, for a long time.

Whether you’re a fan of sci-fi action, thrilling dramas, or a feel-good series, September’s new streaming offerings will be sure to keep you entertained for the days you want to kick your feet up on the couch.
