What’s Streaming in May 2023?

This month in streaming: childhood and 80s favorites are coming back! Between adaptations of Harriet the Spy, a new look at The Muppets, and a documentary about Michael J. Fox with never-before-seen footage, there’s soemthing fo reveryone who’s still young at heart (or has young ones at home)!

So without further ado, let’s get into it! We’ve got some ground to cover this month!

What’s Streaming on Apple TV+?

  • Harriet the Spy S2 (May 5): Your favorite spy is back in the second season of the Apple TV series based on the best-selling children's novel by Louise Fitzhugh! Harriet is outspoken, perpetually curious, and determined to know everything about everyone…which means she needs to spy.
  • Silo S1 (May 5): Starring David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, Common, and more - this series is set in a ruined and toxic future where a community exists in a giant underground silo.   • High Desert (May 17): After the death of her mother, former addict Peggy (Patricia Arquette) decides to change her life and become a private investigator in their small town of Yucca Valley, California.
  • Prehistoric Planet S2 (May 22): Produced by Jon Favreau and utilizing groundbreaking cinematography effects, this documentary series takes you back 66 million years to a time when dinosaurs and other extraordinary creatures roamed the Earth.
  • Platonic S1 (May 24): In this buddy comedy series starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan, former childhood best friends reconnect as adults and try to move past the rift that led to their falling out.

  • Ed Sheeran: The Sum of it All S1 (May 3): For the first time, Ed Sheeran opens the doors to his private life!   • Crater (May 12): Caleb Channing, a young man who was raised on a lunar mining colony, is about to be relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following his father’s death. However, first, to fulfill his dad’s last wish, he and his three best friends hijack a rover to explore a mysterious crater.
  • American Born Chinese S1 (May 24): Jin Wang, an average teenager, juggles his high school social life with his home life; when he meets a new student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

  • XO, Kitty S1 (May 18): Were you one of the thousands of people who fell in love with Lara Jean in To All the Boys I Loved Before? Then this new trilogy following her younger sister Kitty is for you! Follow Kitty's own coming of age story and explorations (and trials) of young love.
  • Mute S1 (May 19): In this Spanish psychological thriller, a man who hasn't spoken since the day he murdered his parents meets a teen girl who might be the key to revealing the whole truth behind his story.
  • Victim/Suspect (May 23): In this new crime documentary, investigative journalist Rae de Leon uncovers and examines the pattern of young women who report being sexually assualted to the police, but instead of finding justice, they're accused of making a false report and arrested.
  • Fubar S1 (May 25): Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first scripted TV series leading role, this series is everything that you love about spy action films! Schwarzenegger plays a CIA operative whose daughter is also in the CIA, but neither of them know the truth about the other! Hilarity (and new missions) ensue!
  • I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson S3 (May 30): Considered one of the best Netflix comedy series of all time, in this sketch show, Tim Robinson and his guests spend each segment driving someone to the point of needing (or desperately wanting) to leave.

What’s Streaming on Hulu?

  • Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi: Holiday Edition (May 5): Award winning cookbook author, host and executive producer Padma Lakshmi, takes audiences on a journey across America, exploring the rich and diverse food culture of various immigrant groups, seeking out the people who have so heavily shaped what American food is today.
  • Class of ‘09 S1 (May 10): A group of FBI agents who graduated from Quantico in 2009 are reunited after the death of a mutual friend. This series is told over the course of three decades, told across three interweaving timelines, and examines life and the choices we make that ultimately define our lives and our legacy.
  • The Great S3 (May 15): In the third installment of this genre-bending, anti-historical ride, we follow a young Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) as she arrives in Russian to marry Peter III of Russia (Nicholas Hoult) but finds herself embroiled in a world of beliefs and customs she doesn't agree with…and tries to change.
  • The Secrets of Hillsong S1 (May 19): An investigative docuseries produced by Queer Eye producer Scout Productions and based on Vanity Fair's expose of the controversial megachurch. This four-part series features the first interviews with former pastors of the church and with some of the congregants.
  • The Kardashians S3 (May 25): The family that you know and love is back in this Hulu series that gives you an all-access pass into their lives! See the truth behind the headlines, the pressure behind running billion-dollar businesses, and the everyday life of being a Kardashian-Jenner.
