5 TV Shows to Watch in 4K Now that Game of Thrones is Over

by Cathy Carr

The long-awaited dust has settled. “Game of Thrones” has finally finished. And that means it’s time to turn your attention – and grief – to other TV shows.

Of course, we wouldn’t just recommend ANY TV show out there. You need something that will fill the “Thrones” shaped hole in your heart, and something that LOOKS good while doing it. We don’t waste our time on SD TV shows around here, no siree. So let’s take a look at a few 4K shows that will keep you on the TV-watching hook this summer.

“Chef’s Table” (Netflix)

“Game of Thrones” became infamous for weddings and feasts, and if you were a fan of the onslaught of food and drink throughout the show, then you are in for a treat with Netflix’s “Chef’s Table.”

The series follows some of the world’s best chefs, documentary style, and explores how and why they create the culinary masterpieces that they do. It’s a delicious feast for the eyes, while also capturing a grounded look at how creatives function at the highest levels of the culinary echelon.

“Marco Polo” (Netflix)

This show isn’t just hours of kids yelling back and forth at each other in the pool, we promise.

While “Game of Thrones” has its own roots in real world English history, “Marco Polo” takes inspiration from, well, Marco Polo! The show only lasted two seasons – so it isn’t that big of a time commitment – but if you are looking for something to fill in for a bit with tales of political drama, give it a shot.

“Mozart In the Jungle” (Amazon Prime)

Netflix isn’t the only company pumping out 4K content: in 2014 Amazon took us behind the scenes of the classical music world with “Mozart in the Jungle.”  The Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe winning series went on for four seasons, giving you a decent amount of screen time to sink your “Game of Thrones”-missing soul into.

“Blue Planet II” (4K Blu-Ray)

No matter what you thought about the final season, “Game of Thrones” still remains a masterpiece on a visual level. And there’s perhaps no way better to enjoy the higher resolution of your TV than with another treat for the senses: We’re of course talking about “Blue Planet II.”

There’s no need to book an expensive vacation this summer when you can travel the world right from the seat of your couch. “Blue Planet II” is probably the tonal opposite of “Game of Thrones,” but that makes it the true, beautiful palate cleanser that you need.

“Game of Thrones” Season 1 (4K Blu-Ray)

Wait, what? This is supposed to be a list about what to watch to get over “Game of Thrones?” Why is “Game of Thrones” on the list? Isn’t that cheating?

Nope it isn’t. What better way to get over the battle for the Iron Throne than to go back where it all started and watch season 1 in 4K for the first time? Now in 4K and HDR, this set gives you a chance to catch every little detail that you missed out when you were relying on streaming. And at least you’ll get to see all your favorite characters back to life again!

No matter what you are planning on watching this summer, there’s only one way to watch TV: On a 4K set. If you haven’t yet made the jump to 4K, give us a call today. We’ll help you find the best new TV for the best price ... and you won’t even have to go far to find it!
