The TV industry can move fast. It wasn’t that long ago that Blu-ray was the high-quality standard, and even the rise and fall of 3D as the “next best thing” wasn’t too long ago, either.
Keeping up with all of TV’s trends can be tricky, especially with all the other tech trends you have to stay up to date with. But, we want our customers to be educated about what is going on in the worlds of the products they care about – that’s just another part of our job as your local integrator!
As part of that, we thought it would be good to look a bit ahead. 2019 isn’t that far away now either, and there are some TV trends you’ll want to keep an eye on as the new year approaches.
1. 4K
The price of 4K sets keeps coming down, and streaming services are expanding their 4K offerings. Expect both of these trends to continue into 2019, and 4K content to become more and more prevalent as the userbase continues expanding.
There’s still a lot of big legacy titles that haven’t jumped ship from Blu-ray to 4K either. That may not happen as streaming keeps growing, but we’d still love to see “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” 4K releases.
2. HDR
High dynamic range – or HDR – may yet be the upgrade that convinces swaths of customers to upgrade from their aging 1080ps sets. This technology brings out the colors in your HDR-enabled content, and even streaming services are starting to offer HDR content on their platforms.
Of course, there’s nothing that says you have to wait until 2019 to upgrade your home tech. If you are looking to upgrade for this fall or the holidays, give us a call! We’ll be glad to walk you through all the latest and greatest options that you can have in your home today.
3. 8K
Samsung is bringing an 8K TV to market this fall, so while this trend might kick off before 2019, the question is how consumers – and other manufacturers – will react to the new resolution next year.
With most consumers still lagging behind 4K adoption though, 8K is probably going to be a tough sell, and we wouldn’t expect to see large amounts of content released for the standard yet.
4. Streaming, Streaming, Streaming
The world of streaming isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and there’s another big name that’s entering the streaming game in 2019. Disney’s long talked-about streaming service is set to launch next year, which will bring new Star Wars, Marvel, and of course, Disney content, available online.
What exactly this service will look like is still unclear, so we may have to wait until 2019 for more info on this one.
Of course, if you want to get a heads up on exact products coming next year, or are ready to start the process to upgrading your home theater system, give us a call today! We’ll be glad to help you set up an awesome custom home system that will still be cutting edge well into the future!
