What's Streaming in October 2021?

by Angela Maple

October is here, which means new shows and new seasons are back and better than ever, ready to captivate and allure newcomers and loyal fans. October is the month of scares, thrills, and drama, and streams for this month do not disappoint in their ability to glue you to your seat.

If you are looking for a reason to stay in, grab a snack, get comfortable, and enjoy the top new and returning series streaming services have to offer.

We promise you won’t regret checking out our top 5 list of shows to stream this October:

On My Block (Netflix, October 4)

Netflix is kicking off this month with the fourth season of On My Block giving fans an early yet bittersweet treat. This teen series ended its last season with our favorite group of friends—Jamal, Ruby, Cesar, and Jasmine — seeing Monsé off to boarding school before skipping to a time jump and fans witnessing the group’s breakup. This season will reveal what broke up this once close-knit group and whether they can resolve their issues and repair their friendships before the series concludes.

Tune in for the final season of “On My Block” on October 4 on Netflix.

Baker’s Dozen (Hulu, October 7)

For foodies and baking competition lovers, Hulu is premiering Baker’s Dozen hosted by Tamera Mowry-Housley (Emmy-award winning host of The Real) and Bill Yosses (former White House Pastry Chef). Home bakers and professional bakers will compete for the golden rolling pin and a large cash prize in this fast-paced competition while creating the next big viral pastry sensation.

Watch amateurs versus professionals go head-to-head in this bake-off on October 7 on Hulu.

Ghostwriter (Apple TV+, October 9)

Apple TV+ is bringing back a beloved ‘90s childhood PSB classic, Ghostwriter, as a modern-day reboot for the whole family to love. This present-day version sees kids entangled in the mysteries caused by fictional characters released into reality by a ghost residing in a local bookstore. Now, it is up to the children to work together to send the characters back to the original stories before they can stir up any more trouble.

Grab the family or friends and stream the Apple TV+ series on October 9.

Just Beyond (Disney+, October 13)

If you are in a mood for a family-friendly scary this month, Disney+ is premiering Just Beyond, an eight-episode supernatural anthology series. Inspired by the ghoulish writings of our favorite childhood horror author, R.L. Stine, Just Beyond will take viewers on a new journey with different characters each episode as they explore new paranormal realities with witches, monsters, ghosts, and more.

You can start streaming the whole series on Disney+ beginning October 13.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (Amazon Prime Video, October 15)

It may be fall, but summer is not quite done with us yet. Amazon’s new TV series I Know What You Did Last Summer retells the tale of a group of teenagers bound by a dark secret and stalked by a dangerous killer. This young adult horror series is more closely based on the 1973 novel of the same title by Lois Duncan rather than the 1997 film adaptation. I Know What You Did Last Summer will air its first four episodes for viewers and book/film fans sitting on the edge of their seats.

Catch the first four episodes and a new episode every Friday starting October 15 on Prime Video.

Insecure (HBO Max, October 24)

The Emmy award-winning comedy Insecure is back with its last ten episodes for this final season. Our beloved and star-studded cast— Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales, and Alexander Hodge, return as our favorite characters as we watch important life decisions and attempts to find their happiness unfold. As Insecure picks up where season four left off, relationships are tested and evaluated as they figure out how and who moves on to the next phase of their lives.

Binge watch the last four seasons of “Insecure” before the fifth and final season starts October 24 on HBO Max.

No matter if you are in the mood for horror, thriller, mystery, drama, comedy, or a good old-fashioned baking competition, October’s upcoming streaming offers plenty of choices to keep you glued to your seat and thoroughly entertained for days. If you are interested in upgrading your streaming experiences, we have a wonderful assortment of TVs and other electronics to enjoy high-quality viewing.
