The holiday season is upon us, and we can’t think of a better way to lean into the festive spirit than with a roomy couch, a soft blanket, a warm beverage, and a new binge-worthy series. Check out this month’s buzziest premieres in our latest roundup of streaming titles.
Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi (Hulu, November 4)
This culinary travel show hosted by one of the Food Network’s most prolific personalities returns for a special four-part holiday edition. Author and activist Padma Lakshmi invites viewers to experience unique traditions through the lens of different immigrant cultures in select U.S. cities, including the customs of Korean New Year in Los Angeles and how Cuban-Americans in Miami celebrate Christmas. In the season premiere, you can expect Lakshmi to nosh her way through eight decadent nights of Chanukah on New York’s Lower East Side.
We won’t blame you if you prop up your own buffet as you stream the Hulu premiere on November 4.
Olaf Presents (Disney+, November 12)
In this series of animated shorts brought to you by the House of Mouse, Frozen’s Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad) steps into the spotlight and goes from snowman to showman as he takes on the roles of producer, actor, costumer, and set builder for his unique “retelling” of five favorite Disney features. Elsa and Anna’s beloved sidekick shows off his theatrical flair, taking on recognizable roles as a mermaid, a genie, a lion king — and all of the roles in between — as he entertains the kingdom of Arendelle with abbreviated, delightful versions of Disney’s most classic tales.
Gather your little ones for a marathon of all five shorts when they launch on Disney+ on November 12.
Cowboy Bebop (Netflix, November 19)
Based on the popular anime series of the same name, this live-action space Western follows three bounty hunters who are as deadly as they are snarky. Unlikely collaborators Spike Spiegel (Jon Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) join forces to hunt down the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals — but for the right price. Unfortunately for our antiheroes, they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts inevitably catch up with them.
Catch all the action when all 10 Netflix episodes are released on November 19.
The Great (Hulu, November 19)
You are cordially invited to the coronation of young Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) as she finally takes the Russian throne for her own. This second season follows the titular sovereign as she struggles to bring the Enlightenment to Russia, which includes battling her court, her team, and her own mother (guest star Gillian Anderson). There is also the matter of her evolving marriage with the ineffectual Emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult) as he slowly transitions from a much-hated husband to a prisoner? Ally? Lover? Through these external and internal battles, Catherine slowly discovers that to change a country, she must let it change her — and that her quest toward becoming “Great” will ask more of her than she previously imagined.
You can start streaming the whole series on Hulu beginning on November 19.
Hawkeye (Disney+, November 24)
They say the best gifts come with a bow. This holiday season, you’ll find former Avenger Clint Barton, a.k.a., Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), wielding his as he embarks on a simple mission: To get back to his family for Christmas. Set in a post-blip (remember Thanos’s famous finger snap that obliterated half of the world’s population?) New York City, this Marvel limited series also introduces Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a 22-year-old archer with dreams of following in Hawkeye’s footsteps as a superhero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Step into the holiday spirit when the Disney+ series premieres on November 24.
