New 4K Releases You Don't Want to Miss This Holiday

by Ronald Elias

There’s just something about movies and the holidays that mixes so well together.

Whether it’s sitting on the couch with the family, cuddling with your significant other while sipping hot cocoa, or just enjoying classic holiday favorites as you sit by the hearth, the colder months at the end of the year are always prime movie watching time.

This year especially, it’s a great time to take a second and relax with some good ol’ Hollywood escapism – even better when you can enjoy stunning quality 4K movies right from the comfort of your own couch or home theater. Let’s take a look at some of the great recent 4K movie releases worth checking out. Remember they’ll all make great holiday gifts for all of the movie fans on your list!

The Lord of the Rings

One simply does not watch “The Lord of the Rings” in standard definition.

One of the defining trilogies of cinema, Peter Jack’s vision of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy epic “The Lord of the Rings” is finally making its way to the superior 4K format. For the purists out there, this December, 4K release includes both the theatrical and extended editions, giving you even more hours of glorious 4K footage to revisit. From the lush green fields of The Shire, to the molten, evil slopes that surround Mount Doom, it’s time to enjoy Middle-earth all over again.

Releasing the same day, “The Hobbit” trilogy will also be hitting Ultra HD. A special 4K collector’s set is due to hit next summer that includes all six movies together, if you are patient enough to wait for whatever extra goodies that set releases with.

It’s a Wonderful Life (4K Steelbook)

Could the timing of this be any better? It’s almost like somebody planned this one out.

There are few movies that scream “classic holiday film” more than Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Digitally restored and remastered, you’ll be able to experience one of the best movies ever made and witness the joy of George Bailey’s Christmas Eve, now in stunning 4K resolution.

Of course, 4K Blu-ray discs only work in 4K Blu-ray players and with 4K compatible TVs, and you don’t want to miss out on seeing this classic in the best resolution possible, do you? Of course not! Give us a call or stop on by today and we’ll help you find that perfect new TV to fit under the tree ... or even one that is too big to fit under the tree!

Jumanji (3-Movie Collection)

Get ready to return to the jungle time and time again with this three movie “Jumanji” collection. Not only does it include the two newer “Jumanji” films, but it also includes the original, classic “Jumanji” featuring the one and only Robin Williams.

So, whether it’s by board game or video game, you’ll be able to return to the world of Jumanji and enjoy these awesome adventures – and it will feel like you are entering the world of the films themselves when you watch them in 4K!

You might want to save this one for after the little ones have gone to bed, but HBO’s masterful miniseries “Chernobyl” will finally be made available – even to people who aren’t HBO subscribers! With this 4K release, you’ll be able to go through this historical Emmy winning limited series that takes a look at this haunting and horrible nuclear accident.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Series

Has it finally been long enough for us to have all gotten over that last season of “Game of Thrones?” Hopefully.

That being said, there are still amazing seasons of television here, and with this complete 4K set, you’ll be able to revisit all your favorite characters – dead and alive – throughout their winding story arc in the bloody, sexual, and political world of Westeros.

Whether it’s dragons in Middle-earth or dragons in Westeros, all of your movie adventures are going to look better in 4K. Get ready to see some great films to help cap off the year. If you need any help with your holiday electronics purchases, give us a call or stop on over!
