While December may be thought of as the month full of traditions and holidays, January has an important follow-up tradition that just can’t be ignored: The annual setting up of all of your new electronics presents!
You don’t have to be alone in your setting-up quest, either. As your local electronics store, we don’t just want to sell you the best products, we also want to make sure you are taken care of through the lifetime of those products, including setting them up. Here are some tips we pulled together to help you get set up and ready to go!
Television Tips
Whether it’s a new TV for the whole family in the living room, or smaller screens in a bedroom, TVs are quite common holiday presents. TVs can be tricky sometimes, so make sure to take care setting up your new window to the digital world.
First, make sure you have a stable – and viewable – location for placing your TV. You don’t want to just set it up on a cardboard box, nor do you want to set it up somewhere that it’s going to get a lot of glare from windows or other annoying distractions.
Depending on the type of TV, it may need to be able to reach your Wi-Fi connection, so that’s another location factor to consider as well. For most people, running an extra cable to their TV is out of the question, so if you want to take advantage of your TV’s online features, make sure it is within range of your home Wi-Fi.
And, perhaps most importantly, make sure you are plugging your shiny new TV into a surge protector, and not directly into the wall. Please. You want to make sure to keep that TV safe, don’t you?
Placing Players
Well now, you weren’t just going to sit there and stare at a blank TV screen, were you? Of course not! You need to watch something on it! And while the advent of streaming has moved a lot of watchers to the digital space, we know you care about the quality that physicality can bring.
Setting up your 4K or Blu-ray player should be a simple process, however. All you’ll need is an outlet to plug the device into, and then a HDMI cord and an open HDMI port on your TV. See, that wasn’t hard!
And, don’t worry – if you happened to make it through the holidays without the right accessories for your TV, stop on by today! We’ll be glad to help you find everything you need to bring your TV game to the next level. And speaking of accessories…
Assisting Accessories
Even if you didn’t get big electronics present this year, you may have gotten some odds and ends and other new things to hook up. Maybe it’s a new gaming system, or maybe your family has decided to go into the voice-controlled age with an Alexa or Google Home. Either way, you’ll need to properly set up those devices, as well!
For a gaming system, or anything that is connecting to your TV via HDMI, you’ll want to find a place as close to your TV as possible – most HDMI cables aren’t super long. You’ll also want to check if you have enough HDMI ports on your TV: If you already have a cable box and Blu-ray player hooked up, you could be at your TV’s max and need an HDMI port.
