How to Clean Your LED TV

by Product Specialist

When it comes time to clean you LED television set, don't be tempted to treat it as you do the other furniture in your living room. It requires a different cleaning approach than your tables, chairs, and sofas.

Note: it is important to turn the set off and unplug it to give the unit a chance to cool down before you clean it.

Use Special Cloths and Cleaning Solutions on Your LED TV

Because the front panel of your TV set contains a plastic panel instead of a glass-fronted tube, it's important to avoid paper towels and scratchy sponges that could cause permanent damage. Instead, opt for a soft cleaning cloth made especially for this purpose. Most LED units come with a specialized cloth for cleaning, but you can always buy a microfiber cloth if you have misplaced it. This type of cloth traps dirt better than other types that simply move it around.

You should avoid putting ammonia, furniture polish, alcohol, or any other type of cleaning solution on your microfiber cloth as these could damage your LED TV. All you really need is to dampen the microfiber cloth with a small amount of water. To avoid leaving streaks behind, wipe the water off with the dry part of the cloth. Also, make sure you don't get water in the interior of the set and avoid spraying anything directly onto the screen.

Place the TV Set in an Ideal Location to Avoid Dirt and Fingerprints

You can cut down on the frequency of cleaning by not letting your LED TV get dirty in the first place. One way to accomplish this is by choosing a location where people and pets are least likely to touch it. You may also want to discourage smoking in the same room as your TV since the smoke tends to stick to the screen.
